چکیده

Performing precision monitoring for changes to seafloor topography is necessary to accurately examine the state of accidents of all sorts on the coast. Thus, this study proposed a new change detection technique to monitor changes to seafloor topography by systemizing the post-processing technique for MBES sounding data and 3D modeling technique. This study also applied the proposed technique to a research area, monitored and analyzed changes to seafloor topography, and observed topographical changes at 13 points with the area of changes accounting for about 3.1% of the total area (4484.57 ㎡).

High-frequency multibeam echo-sounder measurements of seafloor backscatter in shallow water: Part 1 – Data acquisition and processing

Methods for processing multibeam echo-sounder (MBES) bathymetry data are well established, however, there is no universal and established approach to processing and interpretation of MBES backscatter data. The aim of this paper is to (1) detail the different backscatter logging methods implemented in modern high-frequency MBES systems used primarily in shallow water; (2) describe and suggest ap...

A New Method for Acquisition of High-Resolution Seabed Topography by Matching Seabed Classification Images

The multibeam echo sounders (MBES) can acquire accurate positional but low-resolution seabed terrain and images, whereas side scan sonars (SSS) can only acquire inaccurate positional but high-resolution seabed images. In this study, a new method for superimposing corrected-positional SSS images on multibeam bathymetric terrain is proposed to obtain high-resolution and accurate-positional seabed...

An Approach to Seafloor Classification with GA-Based Neural Network

SUMMARY The Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) Neural Network approach has been widely used in acoustic seafloor classification. However, one of its major weak points is the sensitivity to the initialization, affecting the seafloor classification accuracy. In this paper, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to optimize the initial values of LVQ. The GA-based LVQ can rapidly provide the optimum initia...

A New Method for Generation of Soundings from Phase - Difference Measurements

A desirable feature of bathymetric sonar systems is the production of statistically independent soundings allowing a system to achieve its full capability in resolution and object detection. Moreover gridding algorithms such as the Combined Uncertainty Bathymetric Estimator (CUBE) rely on the statistical independence of soundings to properly estimate depth and discriminate outliers. Common meth...

Broadband Scattering from Sand and Sand/Mud Sediments with Extensive Environmental Characterization

A seafloor laser scanner (SLS) was deployed in the Gulf of Mexico during the 2013 Target and Reverberation Experiment (TREX13). This system collected digital elevation maps at 14 locations along the main reverberation track, and these measurements provided roughness power spectra for modeling seafloor acoustic scattering. The spectra were divided into two regimes according to the midand highfre...
